This policy explains how the Android app Rafiq Almuslim / رفيق المسلم and the website rafiqalmuslim.app handle data.

2. App Overview

  • The app does not require an account or login.
  • The app does not display advertising, does not include advertising, analytics or tracking libraries, and does not use Firebase.
  • The app has no paid features, subscriptions or in-app purchases.
  • The app does not send any data to the publisher. If you contact us by email, we receive the information you include in your message. Providing this information is voluntary.

3. Data Stored on Your Device

The app stores your settings (such as the selected city, language, prayer time calculation method and adjustments), Quran reading progress, favourites, voluntary fasting days and cached copies of loaded content locally on your device. Recitation and tafsir packs you choose to download are stored in the app’s private storage. This data is deleted when you clear the app’s data or uninstall the app.

Backup: When you use the backup feature, the app creates a JSON file on your device, which you can save or share via the Android share sheet. The file does not contain location coordinates, the selected location or the favourite mosque, and the app does not upload this file to any server.

4. Location

  • Location access is optional; you can select your city manually instead.
  • When you use your current location, the coordinates are used on your device to calculate prayer times and the Qibla direction.
  • To determine the city and country name, the app uses the geocoding service provided by Android. Depending on the device and service provider, the coordinates may be processed by the system service provider under its own privacy policy.
  • Mosque finder: When used, the coordinates of your current location — or of the selected city if location is unavailable — are sent to Overpass API servers (overpass-api.de, overpass.kumi.systems, overpass.openstreetmap.ru) to search for nearby mosques.
  • Maps: Map images in the mosque finder and the Qibla screen are loaded from OpenStreetMap servers (tile.openstreetmap.org).
  • Directions: When you request directions to a mosque, the app opens Google Maps or another maps app on your device with the destination mosque’s coordinates. Use of that app is subject to its own privacy policy.

5. External Services Used by the App

When certain features are used, the app connects directly to the following services. As with any internet connection, your IP address reaches the respective server. Requests contain identifiers of the requested content (such as a surah number or language), except as described in the Location section.

  • Overpass API (OpenStreetMap): nearby mosque search (includes coordinates).
  • OpenStreetMap (tile.openstreetmap.org): map images.
  • AlQuran.Cloud (api.alquran.cloud): Quran text and metadata.
  • Quran.com (api.quran.com): verse and surah data for the Mushaf view.
  • QuranEnc (quranenc.com): translations of the meanings of the Quran.
  • tafsir_api (via cdn.jsdelivr.net, cdn.statically.io, raw.githubusercontent.com): tafsir pack downloads.
  • EveryAyah (everyayah.com): recitation audio downloads.
  • HisnMuslim (hisnmuslim.com): adhkar content.
  • HadeethEnc (hadeethenc.com): browsing hadith and their translations. The six hadith collections are included within the app.
  • Islamic Centre Austria (islamiccentre.at): when one of the following Austrian cities is selected — Vienna, Graz, Linz, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Klagenfurt, Bregenz, St. Pölten, Eisenstadt — the app retrieves the prayer times published by Islamic Centre Austria; only the city name is sent.

Data processing by these services is subject to their respective privacy policies.

6. Notifications and Permissions

The app requests the following permissions: internet and network state; precise and approximate location (optional); notifications; scheduling exact alarms; running after device restart; keeping the device awake; foreground service; vibration. Prayer time notifications are scheduled locally on your device; the app does not use server-sent notifications.

7. Website rafiqalmuslim.app

  • Hosting: The website is hosted by Hostinger. When you visit the website, the hosting server receives the technical data required to deliver it, such as your IP address.
  • Adobe Fonts (Adobe Typekit): The website uses Adobe Fonts to display its typography; your browser loads files from Adobe servers (use.typekit.net and p.typekit.net), which transmits your IP address to Adobe. This service is not related to the app.
  • pll_language cookie: The website sets a cookie named pll_language to store the site language you selected or prefer. It is valid for approximately one year and is not used for advertising or analytics.
  • The website does not use analytics or tracking tools and contains no data-entry forms.

8. Your Rights

Where the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies, you have the rights it grants, in particular the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, objection, withdrawal of consent at any time, and the right to lodge a complaint with a competent data protection supervisory authority. Because the app stores your data on your device and does not send it to the publisher, you can delete it directly by clearing the app’s data or uninstalling the app.

9. Automated Decision-Making and Profiling

Neither the app nor the website uses automated decision-making or profiling.
